Reflections '78

Welcome to the "UNOFFICIAL" Chi Hi Class of '78 Website...
     by JoElla (Pittman) Younkin

I got the title, Reflections '78, from a paragraph on page 3 of the Chippewa Falls Senior High School Monocle 1978.  I found the paragraph particularly intriguing because I didn't fit the projected 2003 statistics presented on that page.  Back in 1978 I would have scoffed at the thought of moving 15 times in the next 25 years.  I loved the Chippewa Falls area and never dreamed I would ever move out of the area.  Eventually, leaving became inevitable for me.  I remember crying when I first moved out of the area back in 1981.

Today...

Today, I live over 1800 miles away from the hometown I used to love.  I've moved 35 times (for real) since graduating from Chi Hi, 33 of those moves were by 2003 (the 25 year mark).  Consequently, I've lost touch with most of the people I was friends with back then, although I did manage to keep several mementos from my school days.

I created this website to fill  with images of stuff I've managed to keep over the years that was related to our school days.   In case you're wondering, no class funding has been provided to me for this site.

Didn't make it to the 30th Class Reunion as hoped, because we sold our house and were in the middle of yet another move (#35).  I gotta say, selling our house in 2008's economy was a MIRACLE in itself!

So tell me, is it just me or has anyone else pulled out their year book lately and noticed that our teachers don't look that old anymore?!  As for our collage of memories...has anyone seen what Elton John looks like today?  What about Gene Simons (Kiss) from Kiss?  You know he wears suits now?!  Can you believe the year book staff was allowed to put a picture of a gun on the collage?  And what about those cigarettes and beer labels in the picture?  Check out the record player and CB radio on there!

Retrospect...

Times certainly HAVE changed!  I know I have.  I'm pretty conservative these days.  I go to church every week.  Been married 17 years.  We have three daughters, one son in-law and one grandson.  I don't smoke or drink anymore.  In fact, I live in one of the few states that banned public smoking (Washington state).  Coffee is my husband and my drink of choice; we prefer a coffee bar to a brew pub. We like coffee so much we started a Micro Coffee Roaster home based business called, Cold Creek Coffee Company.  Smoothie cafes (Jamba, Booster Juice) rank a close second as a drink of choice. We live amid a variety of fruit orchard and farms; so we often make fresh homemade fruit smoothies.

With the kids gone (empty nest is GREAT).  I've enjoyed the benefits of the technological boom over the years, and of course real estate (remember--35 moves).  I've managed to keep up with the computer age we live in.  I love my high speed internet and my mobile phone.  I communicate via email text message to my kids and my mother (got her hooked) and friends.  (No spam or junk email please.)  Contrary to the TV commercials that depict adults knowing less about computers than their children, I know more than mine.  I believe this is directly related to the fact that I'm more motivated than my kids are (right now).  I out grew video games after Pong, somewhere between PacMan and Mario.  I utilize my computer skills to occasionally develop websites for small business owners. Spent four years in the U.S. Navy (computer based telecommunications), worked in retail management, credit/accounting, marketing (financial services) and federal civil service (Department of Veterans Affairs).  And today I'm a Realtor!  Remember, 35 moves.
